REMS (Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectrometry) is an FDA-cleared, ultrasound-based technology that measures both bone density and bone quality. Unlike traditional methods that use X-ray radiation, REMS uses sound waves — similar to a pregnancy ultrasound — making it completely radiation-free and safe for repeated use.
Traditional scans typically measure only bone density using X-ray radiation. REMS measures both bone density and bone microarchitecture (quality) using ultrasound — with zero radiation. This provides a more comprehensive screening picture of your bone health, including fragility scoring and 5-year fracture risk estimation (educational estimate).
