DEXA tells you the quantity of bone, but not the quality. I prefer REMS from Echolight to understand real fracture risk.

REMS (Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectrometry) measures both bone density and bone quality using zero-radiation ultrasound. DEXA measures only bone mineral density using low-dose X-ray. REMS provides a Fragility Score and 5-year fracture risk prediction that DEXA does not offer, with same-day results at our Fort Myers location.

|---|---|---|
| Technology | Ultrasound (REMS) | X-ray (Dual-Energy) |

The REMS scan revealed early bone quality concerns that my DEXA missed. Dr. Shepetiuk explained everything clearly and created a plan I can actually follow. The whole process took 20 minutes.

I was nervous about radiation from a traditional bone scan. Finding out REMS uses zero radiation was a game-changer. The staff were incredibly kind and my results were ready before I left.

REMS (Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectrometry) is an FDA-cleared, radiation-free ultrasound technology that measures both bone mineral density and bone quality. Unlike DEXA scans, REMS uses no ionizing radiation and can be performed in approximately 20 minutes with same-day results.
DEXA scans use X-ray radiation and measure only bone mineral density (BMD). REMS uses ultrasound, involves zero radiation exposure, and measures both BMD and bone quality — providing a more complete picture of bone health. REMS also calculates a Fragility Score and 5-year fracture risk that DEXA does not offer.
No referral is required. You can book your REMS bone health assessment directly through our website. However, we recommend sharing your results with your primary care provider or specialist for integrated care.
REMS assessments are not typically covered by traditional health insurance. However, you can use HSA (Health Savings Account) or FSA (Flexible Spending Account) funds to pay for your assessment. We accept all major credit and debit cards.
HALLĒ offers radiation-free bone health assessments across Florida and California.

Is This For You?
REMS bone health screening is designed for adults who want a complete picture of their skeletal health — not just a density number.
You haven’t been diagnosed with anything — and you’d like to keep it that way. Before menopause accelerates bone loss, establish your baseline with zero radiation. REMS gives you density + quality + fragility data in one 20-minute visit.

I would like all postmenopausal women to get a DEXA scan or a REMS ultrasound and actually know the status of their bones.

REMS is 5 times more sensitive to BMD changes than DXA. The Fragility Score reflects the quality of bone — something DXA simply cannot measure.

What has been truly needed is a safe, radiation-free way to test bone strength and determine real fracture risk — this is exactly what REMS offers.

Osteoporosis is not a disease. It is a deconditioning of the bone — and like muscle, it can be reconditioned through proper intervention.

Your doctor recommended a DEXA, but you want more than a density number. REMS measures bone quality — the microarchitecture that determines whether bones bend or break. Track your HRT or supplement effectiveness every 6 months, safely.
You play tennis, golf, or pickleball. You feel strong. But bone loss is silent — 80% don’t know until a fracture. Pickleball players in their 60s face the highest fracture risk. A 20-minute REMS scan gives you the full picture.
Your mother or grandmother fractured a hip. Maternal hereditary risk roughly doubles your own fracture probability — and a baseline a decade before symptoms changes the whole intervention window. REMS gives that baseline radiation-free, repeatable every 6 months.
Corticosteroids, aromatase inhibitors, PPIs, certain antidepressants — all quietly reduce bone density. REMS tracks changes with zero radiation, as often as your provider recommends.
Your DEXA gave you a T-score. But two people with the same T-score can have vastly different fracture risk. REMS adds a Fragility Score and bone quality assessment — the data DEXA cannot provide.
